You may have seen or heard about the benefits of dental implants. For patients missing one tooth, or all of their teeth, dental implants have changed the way dentists replace missing teeth. Dental implants offer permanent, natural, long lasting results for stable oral health. Periodontist Dr. Roham Rafat offers full-service dental implant treatment plans for consistent and beautiful results at his Hunt Valley dentist office.
Our patients are sometimes apprehensive about seeking treatment for their missing teeth. Some patients experience fear of the dentist, while others are afraid they can not afford the treatment. Our Valley Dental Health team will work with you to find a missing tooth treatment plan that is right for you. Dental Implants are now the standard in missing tooth replacement options. To better understand how the treatment works, check out some FAQs about dental implants.
Is the dental implant procedure painful?
The dental implant procedure is surprisingly comfortable. Valley Dental Health offers patients a full range of sedation dentistry options to make sure that you are as relaxed and comfortable as possible throughout your treatment. Our dental care team will discuss your sedation options and together you will choose the option that will make you the most comfortable.
What is the cost of dental implants?
Dental implants are a significant investment in your oral health and well being. To compare the cost of dental implants with alternative treatments, you must also weigh the long term benefits of dental implants. A dental implant is less likely to need repairs and maintenance and can help improve the quality of your life.
I have more than one missing tooth, can I still use dental implants?
Yes, a dental implant can be used to replace one missing tooth or to replace all of your missing teeth by supporting a denture or bridge. If the dental implants are being used to support a denture or bridge, Dr. Rafat may need to place as few as two dental implants to secure the restoration.
What if I need additional dental treatments?
For some patients with missing teeth, multiple treatments may be necessary to restore their oral health. If additional treatments are needed, Dr. Rofat will discuss the need and benefit of each treatment. We provide sedation dentistry options so you may receive more than one treatment at a time.
Will I have to see multiple specialist?
Dr. Rofat is one of the leading periodontists in the Baltimore, MD area. Dr. Rofat provides comprehensive dental implant treatments for the convenience and quality of care.
Do dental implants require special care?
Dental implants require no more maintenance than your natural teeth. For long-term success, your dental implants rely on healthy gums and surrounding teeth to thrive, just like your natural teeth. Regular oral hygiene, brushing and flossing regularly and biannual dental check ups with Dr. Rofat or Dr. Izadi should keep your dental implants healthy for a lifetime of smiles.
Does my insurance cover dental implants?
Your dental insurance may cover part of the cost for dental implants. Our dental team will help you maximize your benefits. We accept most dental insurance and will contact your provider to check your benefits. Valley Dental Health also offers affordable financing options through CareCredit.

Gum disease will affect over 50 % of adults to some degree throughout their lives. A progressive disease, gum disease can develop into a serious oral health condition that can impact your overall health. Diagnosing and treating gum disease is essential for long term oral health and your well being. Hunt Valley dentist Dr. Roham Rafat has specific training in periodontics and perio-prosthodontics for comprehensive and quality treatment of all stages of gum disease.
What is Periodontal Disease
Periodontal disease is a term used to describe the bacterial infection of the gums and teeth.
Untreated, gum disease is one of the leading causes of tooth loss. A build up bacteria in the gums can cause an excess of plaque on the teeth that causes tooth decay and subsequently tooth loss. Gum disease can progress and should be addressed in its earliest stages for conservative treatment.
How Can I Tell If I have Gum Disease?
Biannual oral health checkups can keep gum disease in check. It is also important to be aware of any changes in your teeth or gums. Some signs and symptoms of gum disease include:
- Frequent Bleeding Gums
- Loose Teeth
- Receding Gum Line
- Mouth sores
- Changes in the fit of a dental restoration
- Chronic Halitosis
- Red or swollen gums
How Can I prevent Gum Disease
Preventative dental care is the best way to avoid the development of gum disease or periodontal disease. Brushing and flossing are your first defense against the build up and spread of oral bacteria. Avoiding the use of tobacco, excessive alcohol consumption and maintaining a healthy diet can all help to keep your gums and teeth healthy.
Gum disease is known to contribute to the development of serious health concerns. New studies have emerged showing a direct link between oral health and general health, which is why regular visits to the dentist are so important. Visiting Valley Dental Health twice a year for professional cleanings and dental health exams are essential for comprehensive preventative dental care. Schedule a consultation with our Hunt Valley dentist office or request one online.

Dental implants have become the preferred method of missing tooth replacement. With a near 95% success rate, dental implants provide a durable, comfortable and lifelike dental restoration. Valley Dental Health dentist and periodontist Dr. Roham Rafat is highly trained and experienced in complete implant dentistry. Dr. Rafat can complete most dental implants from start to finish from the comfort of our Hunt Valley dentist office.
Today’s modern dentistry and technology have improved all aspects of dentistry. Dentists have fine-tuned technique, and materials are more realistic than ever. Patients who receive dental implants to replace their missing teeth often forget they have them. Dental implants provide patients with a range of long-term dental health benefits in addition to a stable and secure smile.
Benefits of Dental Implants Hunt Valley, MD
- Natural Looking: Dr. Rafat uses the latest in dental materials to provide natural looking results. A titanium dental implant will be covered with a dental crown, bridge, or denture. The material used in the restoration reflects light just like a natural tooth and can be color matched to blend in with your surrounding natural teeth.
- Supports Bone Structure: The titanium post will be surgically implanted into your jaw bone. The post acts as a natural root system. The natural properties of titanium allow it to fuse with the bone, creating a stable oral foundation. A strong foundation helps to maintain facial structure and protects the surrounding teeth and gums.
- Protects Remaining Teeth: Dental implants help to protect your remaining natural teeth from further damage. Replacing missing teeth is vital to maintaining a functional and healthy smile.
- Long Lasting & Secure: With dental implants, you never have to fear slippage while eating or speaking as you may with traditional dentures. Dental implants are permanent and durable. With regular oral hygiene, dental implants can last a lifetime. Once healed, you may return to your normal healthy diet and lifestyle.

At Valley Dental Health, we aim to treat each patient with individualized respect and compassionate dental care.
I Lost A Tooth- Now What?
Have you ever heard that if you lose a tooth you should put it in a glass of milk? Well it is true. The ADA and Drs. Izadi and Rafat recommend placing your lost tooth in small container with your own saliva or milk. Once your tooth is knocked out it is best to get to the dentist within one hour.
If you can find the lost tooth, you may pick it up by the crown and gently rinse it, but be careful not to scrub it. You do not want to remove any tissue that may still be attached. Place your tooth in that milk, and call our Hunt Valley dentist office. Our dental care team will do their best to save your natural tooth, in the case the tooth can not be saved, Dr. Izadi and Rafat are highly experienced and trained in a variety of restorative dentistry treatment options for missing teeth.
My Crown Broke, Can I Save It?
Most dental restorations can not be reused, however, we do encourage saving the restoration if possible. We always stress to patients to never attempt to glue or reattach a crown or filling by yourself.
Call our Hunt Valley dentist office as soon as possible at 410.666.1178 for professional dental treatment. Dr. Izadi and Dr. Rafat have years of experience and advanced education on restorative dentistry treatments. They can help to find the best dental treatment for your unique oral health needs.

Anxiety and stress of the dentist can be so debilitating that people refuse to see a dentist about oral health concerns. Some people suffer from intense gag reflex, jaw pain, or severe anxiety, limiting their ability to receive the dental health care they need. Ignoring your oral health can lead to serious medical conditions and lengthy, expensive procedures.
Hunt Valley family dentist Dr. Dr. Roham Rafat is certified in Maryland to administer IV sedation to patients at our Cockeysville dental office. Dr. Rafat offers experienced sedation dentistry services to relax you and alleviate your fears during your dental implant procedure or periodontal treatment.
It is important to note that sedation dentistry is different than local anesthesia. Anesthesia is an injection that blocks pain signals from reaching the brain, resulting in numbness of the area where the anesthetic was administered. Sedation Dentistry is the use of pharmaceuticals to calm your anxiety and stress.
Dr. Rafat offers three different sedation dentistry options. Each option works in slightly different ways. All three sedation methods will enable you to feel anxiety and pain free during a procedure, allowing you to receive the oral health care you need.
Oral Sedation- prescription medication is administered and ingested prior to your visit. You will feel relaxed and at ease while maintaining your consciousness. No needles necessary- and budget friendly. When using oral sedation, it takes about 30-45 minutes for the sedation to set in, it is often recommended you take the oral sedation prior to arriving at the dentist.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)- you will inhale gas through a small cannula placed over the nose, relaxing you while enabling you remain fully alert and responsive. Nitrous oxide is safe and effective and commonly used in dentistry techniques. The gas is only effective while wearing the mask, allowing you to return to your daily routine as soon as the procedure is complete.
IV Sedation- carefully controlled in the office setting and will settle you into a light sleep during your surgery so you won’t feel a thing. IV Sedation is easily controlled and will be expertly administered by a certified Maryland dentist. Because the medication is administered intravenously, it will work almost immediately.. IV Sedation can only be administered by trained and certified dentist like Dr. Rafat.
Sedation Dentistry has proven to be safe and effective. During your dental treatment or procedure, Dr. Rafat and his team monitor you closely to ensure your comfort and safety. Dr. Rafat will analyze your overall health and medical history before recommending IV Sedation for your dental procedure.
If you have additional questions about sedation or your dental procedure, contact our office and we will be glad to assist you.

Oral health care is an important part of maintaining overall health and physical well being. Good oral health benefits not only your smile, but also your daily quality of life. From increased self-confidence and overall wellbeing, a beautiful, healthy smile that you feel good about can transform your visual appearance while improving the health of your mouth and body.
Taking care of your teeth means more than just daily brushing and flossing. The foundation of long term oral health consists of two important factors: daily brushing and flossing, and two preventive care visits per year. Hunt Valley family dentists, Drs. Rafat, Izadi and Williams remind patients of the important role that preventive dental care visits play in not only keeping the teeth and gums healthy, but enabling you to enjoy the best possible quality of life. We offer the comprehensive dental care that you and your family needs to maintain or restore a healthy smile.
Regular oral hygiene, both at home and during visits to Valley Dental Health, helps prevent the development of common dental concerns. The consequences of minimal oral health care can lead to harmful oral health problems, such as tooth decay and gum disease, and may require expensive treatments to correct. Poor oral health can also lead to other health risks including heart disease and affect the severity of many systemic diseases such as diabetes.
Valley Dental Health serves patients in Cockeysville, Sparks, Phoenix and many local communities, offering a full range of general dentistry services including routine dental cleanings, preventative care, basic restorative procedures and oral surgery. Our routine dental exams include a thorough evaluation of your mouth, teeth, gums, jaw joints, and other supporting structures. Drs. Rafat, Izadi and Williams will also perform diagnostic x-rays, oral cancer screenings, a bite analysis, and much more. Additionally, Dr. Rafat is a periodontist, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of gum disease.
